American born, to Cornish parents who had come out to Grass Valley in the 1880s. She had never seen Cornwall and she made a better pasty than anyone in it. She married Thomas three years after he got off the train, and she is the reason he stayed.
Accomplishments
- Ran the Grass Valley Methodist church pasty supper for thirty years1931
From 1931 to 1961. The Cornish pasty came to Grass Valley as portable food for miners and the town still holds a pasty-tossing contest each March on St Piran Day.
- Kept every letter that came from St Just between 1924 and 19691924
