Fremantle born, Irish-Australian. She married a Cornishman in 1936 who would not discuss where he had been between 1927 and 1936 and she stopped asking. She worked the Fremantle harbour canteen through the war, when the port was the second largest Allied submarine base in the Pacific and 416 war patrols went out of it. She made Arthur write the 1948 letter.
